The Curtain Was Torn

Luke, the humble physician and writer of the third Gospel, tells us that as Christ hung on the cross bleeding, beaten and in agony certain events were occurring in other areas besides the hill of Calvary. He tells us in verse 23:45 “And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.”
There are secular records besides Luke that confirm the sun darkening that day, although no eclipse was predicted. Jewish as well as Roman historians tell of the day growing dark. We, as Christians know that as Christ was coming closer to death, the world’s sins were laid upon him. There is no light in sin, only darkness. Sin flourishes undercover of darkness. Wouldn’t it be natural that, as the Light of the world was having sin heaped upon Him, darkness would begin to creep in? See, I personally don’t believe the bible is all symbolisms. I truly believe that without God, there is total darkness. And that day, in that moment, God could not look upon his loving Son because of the sin, and darkness was the result.
But notice the second part of that verse, “…and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.” God tore the very item that kept us separated from his presence! As Jesus was sacrificing himself with the sins of the world, God was doing another miracle by show us we no longer had to go through a Priest or any other human to come to His presence! We did not have to wait for a year, did not have to have animal sacrifice to ask for forgiveness. The very moment Jesus was dieing, God accepted the Son’s Blood of Atonement as the final sacrifice! Jesus opened the veil for access to His Mercy to anyone who accepted Him as their sacrifice and Lord and Savior! God’s Kingdom is for everyone who will accept it. Thank you Jesus!
