A Moment of Truth (In a secular song)

As I set down to do this month’s front page of the July edition of the newsletter, the lyrics of a song I once said was my “theme” song were going trough my head over and over. The words always seemed to ring true; that is until I finally gave into the calling of Jesus and accepted Him into my life. But why today? Why now? I’ve got to get my mind on God and the scriptures for a message! AAARRRGGGHHH!

But then I get it! Because it is God’s message for this month! The lyrics are from a song the Eagles did back in the ‘70’s called “Desperado” This month we will hear a lot of talk about freedom from a lot of politicians, as they erode them away behind our backs. But God’s message comes through loud and clear in my mind with this lyric:

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home And freedom, oh freedom well, that's just some people talkin' Your prison is walking through this world all alone

How many millions of Americans will celebrate the 4th of July never really knowing the sacrifice our veterans gave or the sacrifice Jesus Christ gave for freedom. I want you to really think about this thing called freedom this month.

Our forefathers and our soldiers gave everything for today’s country. But as the speeches are given, as the song says, “Your prison is walking through this world all alone”

Without Christ, there is a part of everyone missing; that relationship with God the Father. We are made for fellowship with God, but sin put a barrier between us and our Heavenly Father. Jesus shed His blood as the only sacrifice acceptable to restore that relationship. No matter how much family and friends we have around us this holiday, if we don’t have Jesus in our lives, we are walking through this world alone.

We have the freedom to choose and accept the truth, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6, or we can deny the truth. Are you “walking through this world all alone”?

  1. Very Good, Brother Beauregard!
People do need to know that our freedom comes through Jesus Christ. Our Founding Fathers believed it and so did the House of Representatives, in which, they discussed the various books of the Old Testament on the floor of the House as to what laws would be used for this country.
    God Bless You all.
