Did you hear about the chocolate shortage this year? Many news channels have reported that the chocolate bunnies will cost 140% more than last year. The reports are Easter celebrations may be cut back and lower income families will be hurt in the pocketbook, the cost being too prohibitive. Will the children suffer if the reason for the celebration becomes too pricey?
WAIT…WHAT?!? Since when did the Hershey Company become the spokesperson for the Easter Season? When did more people begin to believe bunnies and candy was what Easter is about than the true celebration of a Risen Jesus? Has Easter gone the way of Christmas?
I know many Christians with children do the easter bunny thing, and it’s OK with me personally, as long as the real reason is explained.
As a child, (back in the stone age) my parents didn’t attend church regularly. But on Easter Sunday Morning, my grandmother would take me to church. I knew the day was about Jesus rising from the tomb. In fact, I don’t know of any children in my town and my age, church going or not, that didn’t know the religious reason for the day. We just thought the Easter Bunny was happy himself and gave out baskets in celebration!
We, the church, must remind the world that our celebration of Easter is about a Savior who came to earth as a sacrificial Lamb for our sins, was crucified and was raised on the third day. We must take nothing for granted, or be silent for political correctness sake. We must speak the truth for their soul’s sake!
The news said “the cost may be prohibitive”. Funny, I don’t remember reading where God said “the cost may be prohibitive” when it was determined Jesus would be the sacrifice for our sins! I thank God he never doubted I was worth the cost, because He loves me that much! He said YOU are worth it also. Do you know someone who doesn’t know what Easter is about? Love them enough to witness to them.
